I thought this video was terrible… now it makes me thousands a month

Quick story, especially for those that are shy about sharing themselves through video / social media.

It was a year ago, I had just arrived in a new city. I was running around, getting situated, while still keeping up a daily podcast and minimum 1 daily social media video (TikTok/Reel/YTShort).

BTW, here’s exactly how I post my videos.

It was one day in particular where I was really, really short on time.

In the past I was making affiliate videos for PodMatch, a tool that I used to go on 30 podcasts in 3 months back before having any online presence.

I was making the videos from the perspective of SEO benefits. Going on podcasts is great for getting backlinks, getting brand mentions, getting website engagement, and getting branded searches.

Podcasts are a completely overlooked SEO hack, but my shorts on this never really hit.

I picked talking about PodMatch again because when you’re short on time, the easiest subject matter for content is something you’ve made content on before or something you have a lot of experience with.

This time, however, I was so busy I didn’t even try to spin PodMatch as being for SEO.

I just made a video on exactly what PodMatch was meant for – out of necessity I picked the most straightforward framing/positioning possible.

Here’s the video:

Here’s the transcript:

You can get on tons of podcasts even if nobody has heard of you.

I used this to get on 30 podcasts in 3 months.

You fill out a profile and then their algorithms use it to match you with podcast hosts who want guests on their shows.

You get three matches a day.

Even if nobody has heard of you, people will match with you.

The shows are small, but it’s an easy way to start building a brand. When people search your name on YouTube, the shows appear.

Then you can use these small shows to get on bigger shows.

AIPodcastMatcher.com

Uses AI to match you with hosts who want you on their shows.

Straightforward, right? I recorded and edited that at a café in 12 minutes.

But here’s the crazy part

That video felt so lazy I almost didn’t post it. “I can’t do this to my audience, this is so bad.” I’m serious, I thought this.

In fact, I made another video after, which took a lot more time and flopped completely.

And then this video, I almost didn’t post. I only posted it thinking, “This is really bad. But I should post it as a learning experience and because I’ve seen that the more you post, the more you grow. And if it’s so bad, it won’t get reach anyway so not many people will see it. And maybe somebody will find the information helpful.” That is how I justified myself posting a piece of content, which I really felt was not good.

Now, because of this single video, which I have reposted many times since (each time it goes viral again), I am PodMatch’s biggest affiliate. Everybody who signs up with my referral code – I get a 20% commission from each month – and I’ve helped a lot of people get on podcasts! That’s crazy!

So this is the lesson I want to leave you with:

Even if the content feels embarrassingly awful or lazy, but you believe the information in it can help ANYBODY – if you believe it could be useful to SOMEONE – you should post it.

Because:

  • You might have accidentally made a banger.
  • You might end up providing value to somebody.
  • More content is generally better.
  • If it flops, few people will see it anyway – the algorithms won’t give it reach.
  • At the very least it will be a learning experience.

Don’t stress about how you look or how something looks. Stress about the value you are providing to the people who consume what you make.

And don’t be afraid to share – you never know what will happen.
