One hour SEO update that makes strong pages do even better and simultaneously boosts weak pages.
I made a podcast about this last week and a lot of people loved it. If you haven’t seen it, you can watch it here:
Here’s the step-by-step:
- Go to Google Search Console.
- Go to “Full report” in “Performance,” then click on “PAGES” to the right of “QUERIES” – under the traffic graph.
- Your pages will automatically be sorted by most popular within organic Google Search. Pick one of your top pages that you would like to have do even better!
- Now you’re seeing all the queries (keywords) that your page is ranking for. In the top right, click on “EXPORT” → “Download CSV.”
- Go to Claude, as it’s great for handling a lot of data.
- Go to the page you are updating. Copy everything on it and paste it into Claude. Also give Claude the CSV you just downloaded. Use the following prompt, “I’m attaching my article and a CSV of Google Search Console queries it currently ranks for. Analyze the queries against the article’s existing content, identify keyword clusters with meaningful impressions that aren’t well-covered in the article, and suggest new H2 sections to add – so the article can rank for more of the queries it’s already partially matching.”
- You’ll get a bunch of suggestions. Say, “Ok, give me the first H2 to add and tell me where to insert it. Don’t write the rest of the content yet.”
- When you’re satisfied with the H2 recommendation from Claude and where the new section will be inserted, follow up with, “Ok, write the rest of the content.” The writing will be contextual for where it is placed in the article, which is why steps 7 and 8 are broken into separate steps – vs writing the H2 and corresponding full text in one go.
- You will still have to improve Claude’s output. Some ways to improve:
- Its knowledge/recommendations may be lacking or out of date (this happens to me a lot).
- Remove AI giveaways – here’s how to humanize AI content.
- AI output is overly wordy. Cut unnecessary words. Make things concise.
- AI writing is also uncertain – but readers prefer certainty. Certainty in copywriting improves retention and conversions. Change phrases like “this can” to “this will.” Remove words like “often.” “This can often improve your online visibility” → “This will improve your visibility.” – Clearly, the second is better.
- Focus on making sure readers get an immediate, concise answer in the output.
- Add 2-3 more sections into your content using the above method informed by your keyword data.
- Pages that rank in search engines and get clicks generate their own authority – and authority helps search engines prioritize which content is most trustworthy and best for users. The page you just improved is generating its own authority (since you picked one of your top pages). Now you will use this authority to boost an underperforming page of yours via an internal link. Decide on a page you have that is targeting a keyword and that is also underperforming with SEO.
- Start a new chat with Claude or ChatGPT – I use ChatGPT for this part because it writes smoother copy, especially when you need a piece of content made relevant to irrelevant subject matter. Paste in the full page that you just updated, with the prompt, “This is my page. Just confirm you received it.”
- Now paste in the entire underperforming page that you would like to boost. Use this prompt, “This is the page I want to boost. Find the most natural place in the first article to add an internal link to it. Give me only where to add it, the sentence or H2 section to insert, and the anchor text. Keep it concise and in my voice.”
- If there’s nothing in your first page that is related to the underperforming page you want to boost, you’ll want to do a short H2 section to increase relevance to the internal link. The added context increases the topical relevance of the internal link and makes it feel natural to readers.
- Again, edit the AI output. Always edit AI output.
- Reread over the beginning of your first page. You may have to edit it very slightly to reflect all the changes you just made. If nothing needs to be edited, continue.
- Update your date published for your first piece of content since you just made substantial changes.
- Submit your updated page to Google Search Console in the top bar then click “REQUEST INDEXING.”
This process should take about an hour for any one page.
It’s great because it makes your high-performing content get more relevant traffic from search and LLMs. Search engines already have you ranking for these keywords – you just need to capture them better. When you rank for more of them, you get cited more in LLMs.
Then you use the authority you have to boost the performance of an underperforming SEO page – where you’re targeting the keyword well, matching search intent well, but your page just needs more authority. Internal links from pages on your site that are doing well with SEO are valuable.
Save years learning SEO that gets customers
My SEO course, Compact Keywords, shows you how specifically to find keywords where people are looking for what your brand offers, but they don’t know your brand exists.
If these people knew of your brand, they would purchase from you or call you, but again, they just don’t know your brand does exactly what they’re looking for.
Compact Keywords shows you how to find these keywords, how to satisfy them with SEO landing pages made to convert searchers, how to structure your site for these pages, how to build backlinks, how to target keywords (even with video), how to do a technical SEO audit, and a lot more.
Here’s an email about Compact Keywords I received last week from Daniel in Romania:
“I started doing your recommendations with a more push around November and December. As the graphs show I have increased a lot both in traffic and keywords. In a market that is very hard to do SEO as most people seek the pharmacy websites with bigger budgets for SEO and impressive backlinks profiles. I am beating them in many keywords and my website is only 2 years old and most of the time was flat until I have find you. And imagine this is not English language, is Romanian where I don’t have many keywords and everyone is fighting over them. I can only thank you and keep up the good work.”
Or this review the week before from Matas in Lithuania, “I get meetings pretty much every day.”
Or this review from Kris in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, “We’re getting about six to eight calls per day on a good day which is just unheard of.”
Or the SEO legend, Matt Diamante, who got it for his entire SEO agency.
If you haven’t gotten Compact Keywords yet, you’re going to love it.
Again, it’s meant to save you years learning how to do SEO that gets RESULTS.
It gets conversions with search and LLMs, it’s less work than traditional SEO, it’s in line with Google updates and what Google wants for its searchers (I had a Google Search Quality Analyst on my podcast last week just to double check), and it makes more money than traditional SEO.

Thank you, Edward, for these suggestions. I used to go with my biggest drops to fix first; is that the wrong way to go about it, or just a different way?
My advice is if your method is working to recover, no need to fix it.
