This capitalizes on the topical authority you already have within Google to either get new content ranking or existing content ranking…
Search this in Google:
[Your website] “relevant keyword you want to rank for”
It would look like this:
GridPebble.com “project management software for agencies”
JuniperKiteGoods.com “waterproof hiking boots”
CopperQuillPlumbing.com “emergency plumber austin”
When you do it for your site, you should see a couple pages come up.
This means you already have content relevant to the keyword indexed in Google.
If the first page that shows could satisfy search intent for your target keyword, link the most relevant text on the other pages to that first page.
You may have a section in the first page that is hyper relevant, but it’s further down the page. Not ideal, but create an anchor link for that section to use for the internal links.
An anchor link looks like this: https://edwardsturm.com/compact-keywords/#program-contents – notice how that takes you further down the page. It’s because of the #program-contents in the URL.
The outcome is the same. Get stronger rankings.
If you don’t have satisfactory content
If you don’t have content that really satisfies search intent for your target keyword, create a new page.
First, spend 5-10 minutes thinking and writing through these 3 questions:
- Who is searching your primary keyword?
- What do they want?
- What are they looking to achieve?
Then, when you create your new page, put your target keyword in the:
- Page title
- URL slug
- H1
- Beginning of the first sentence
- Meta description is optional
Now link the most relevant text on the other pages to this new page to push it toward page 1 of Google and increase its visibility in AI search.
That’s it for this week! And, of course, also make sure you have the basics covered.
Target keywords that make you money
If you’re going to go after keywords, I recommend going after keywords that get you:
