The Reddit SEO Strategy Almost No One Is Using

Hilarious SEO tactic people are doing.

“Reddit” goes in your:

  • Page title
  • URL slug
  • H1
  • Beginning of your first sentence

For years people have manually been adding “Reddit” to their searches:

‘best payroll software reddit’
‘nyc carpet cleaner reddit’
‘sneakers for arched feet reddit’

Google search for "standing desk for home office reddit," demonstrating how users search with "Reddit" in their query instead of using the site:reddit.com search operator.

But unless you search with:

Site:reddit.com you don’t only get Reddit results back.

‘Site:reddit.com best payroll software’
‘Site:reddit.com nyc carpet cleaner’
‘Site:reddit.com sneakers for arched feet’

You see the same pattern with LLMs.

When you prompt an AI like ChatGPT, it will fan your prompt out into multiple searches across a search engine.

Here’s how to see these searches yourself:

Sometimes ChatGPT or Claude or the LLM of your choice will add Reddit to one of its searches instead of site:reddit.com.

That’s where you come in. You target and rank for these Reddit searches.

An awesome SEO and friend, David Quaid, returned to my podcast this week to show himself doing this:

Reddit Resource page

You start by putting up a Resource page in your niche that has “Reddit” in your:

  • Page title
  • URL slug
  • H1
  • Beginning of your first sentence

‘Why Small Businesses Get Payroll Wrong – Lessons From Reddit’

‘Can Landlords Charge for Carpet Cleaning in NYC? Lessons From Reddit’

‘Do Insoles Actually Help With High Arches? Lessons From Reddit’

Once it starts ranking, you look through Google Search Console data to see the keywords it is ranking for.

Why take this circuitous route: a lot of keyword research tools won’t have enough data to recommend “reddit” keywords to target. Your resource page will rank for many of these keywords, which you use in the next part of the process.

Target more keywords - not yet going after your main “Reddit” keywords

Find easy, long-tail keywords to target by looking through the Google Search Console data of your Resource page.

Filter for keywords with high relative clicks despite a bad ranking.

For example, if you have:

‘how to switch payroll providers reddit’ – 3 clicks per month, in position 6

and

‘do I need payroll software reddit’ – 3 clicks per month, in position 96.

You know from the data ‘do I need payroll software reddit’ is going to be more valuable to target.

These pages will bridge you from the Resource page to the main “reddit” keywords you want.

Does this content need to be long?

Nope!

David literally shows himself ranking for ‘reddit seo experts’ with a page that is 78 words:

Screenshot from David Quaid's website ranking for the keyword "top SEO influencers reddit," illustrating that a short 78-word page can rank for Reddit search keywords.

The Resource page should be long though, just so it can capture more keywords with Google Search Console. The bridge pages, again, don’t have to be long.

Internal links

Internal links are just links from one page on your website to another page on your website.

Internal links from pages that rank and get clicks pass authority to other pages (as explained in the podcast below).

Your Resource page internal links to your bridge pages, giving them authority so they can rank.

Your bridge pages link to your money Reddit keywords.

Now you’re ranking and getting clicks for your Resource page and bridge pages.

Time to go after the more difficult keywords.

‘best payroll software reddit’
‘nyc carpet cleaner reddit’
‘sneakers for arched feet reddit’

Again, keyword goes in the:

  • Page title
  • URL slug
  • H1
  • Beginning of your first sentence

Once your bridge pages are ranking and are stable, then you also link from your Resource page to your money keyword pages.

You should also build out pages that are ranking well, so they rank for even more keywords – low-hanging fruit!

At the end of the day, so much of SEO is just relevance and basic authority. People always try to overcomplicate it, but most of it boils down to that.

My SEO course, Compact Keywords, is making people’s phones ring!

“I get meetings pretty much every day.”

“We’re getting about six to eight calls per day on a good day which is just unheard of.”

The reason my course works so well is simple:

It’s showing you how to use SEO to target people WHO ALREADY WANT WHAT YOUR BRAND SELLS.

Compact Keywords shows you how to find these people, target them with conversion-based SEO landing pages, structure your site for these pages, build backlinks, and more.

People literally get it for their entire businesses:
