Thoughts on Buying Twitter Followers With Promoted Account Ads

Buying paid followers on Twitter used to be a terrible idea. It was only done through third parties; all you would get is inactive accounts that wouldn’t engage with anything.

But now, Twitter allows you to buy followers through Twitter itself!

So this is what I’m trying.

One of the Twitter Promoted Account Ads I'm running - also known as a Twitter Follower Ad.

The TBDs:
-Will these followers engage since they’re coming from Twitter itself and not third parties?
-What will the follower acquisition cost be?

So far:
From my tests over the last few days, I’ve been paying, on average, $0.02 per follower. Some ads do really well, getting me a less than 1 cent cost per follower. For others, it’s a few cents on the high end.

However, many of the accounts look low quality, and few, if any, are Verified. With that said, this doesn’t mean they’re not real people who won’t engage with my content: this remains to be seen.

If this works, it will be a game changer.

You won’t need to spend months or years grinding out a following – if your content is good enough – you’ll be able to get that following comparatively quickly.

You’ll still need to earn trust through consistency, but awareness, one of the hardest parts, will be taken care of.

Instagram followers?

I’m also trying the same thing with Instagram. My campaign just started, so I’ll be able to give updates soon.

My previous Twitter tests?

I have two other campaigns going.

The first, a campaign to get subscribers to my newsletter, has an average of $1.49 per subscriber. From what I’ve seen so far, however, I think I can eventually get this to below $0.25. Maybe less.

The other, a campaign that sends people to an SEO page that also acts as an affiliate page, may work, but I should not obscure the affiliate call-to-action so much. I’ll be testing this more.
