Capitalizing on trending topics greatly amplifies chances of success.
I capitalized trending topics to:
- Get hundreds of millions of views.
- Go on TV shows.
- Make half a million dollars in 2 days with a blockchain game.
Some specific examples:
- During the first blockchain hype cycle, we realized the need for a blockchain game and made half a million dollars in two days with just a landing page for something people wanted but hadn’t yet seen much of.
- During the Silicon Valley Bank collapse, I went all in on making videos about it and made the most viewed video in the world on the topic – getting over 5 million views.
- When the Harlem Shake was blowing up, we used the hype to get hundreds of strangers to Times Square to do it and used this stunt to promote our media brand.
Where to find trending topics
The reality is it depends on the niche you’re in. I make a lot of videos about technology, so my favorite place to see what’s trending is:
X Trending Tab – this is my go-to.
TechCrunch – my second go-to.
r/Technology – often filtered by the Artificial Intelligence flair.
I’ll also occasionally check Google Trends’ Trending Today, as it covers the most trending general topics.
Here’s why trending topics are great
If you’re early to cover something trending, and you do it in a minimally decent way, you have a good chance of going viral.
My Silicon Valley Bank Collapse video took 25 minutes to make. Got 5 million views.
If you make content or you’re thinking through a marketing campaign, consider combining what you’re doing with something that’s trending.
Speaking firsthand – it works.
